When looking to improve your personal appearance through treatment there are a myriad of options available to the consumer. Hair loss treatment is a procedure like many others that sell themselves on the internet; they must be researched in order to be viable and reliable. For those out there that are considering the benefits of hair loss treatment, the following three procedures are the most commonly used and successful.
Rogaine (Minoxidil) – This is the only treatment that it expressly endorsed by the FDA for use and advertisement in the United States. The FDA has endorsed the use of Rogaine even though nobody truly does know how this hair loss treatment works. Rogaine is a clear substance that is applied to the scalp twice a day and can be used with gel or spray as long as the Rogaine dries first.
Retin-A (Tretinoin) – The use of Retin-A is not a treatment that should be used alone without the help of another drug. In addition to being a hair loss treatment, Retin-A is used to treat acne and is in fact one of the leaders in the market for treating acne skin conditions. Many doctors will recommend the use of Retin-A with Rogaine, which adds another element to the treatment cycle.
Propecia (Finasteride) – The hair loss treatment drug Propecia is perhaps only second to Rogaine in its clinical studies and popular growth. Most people have heard or seen Propecia ads about the benefits of the drug, but it is still not endorsed by the FDA as a safe and strong product for hair loss treatment. This treatment works like most others, but should still be used with a little bit more caution than Rogaine.
Hair loss treatment is like just about every other treatment or system for enhancing your appearance in that it has its positive and negative side effects. The consumer should consider why hair recovery is important to them and weigh it against the possible side effects that could arise. Don’t pick a treatment with the idea that a miracle could happen, understand that anything is possible with personal appearance products.

The causes of hair loss are few and many all at the same time, but you must first understand how hair loss is possible. Many television and radio commercials will advertise causes of hair loss being poor care taken of the hair or bad hair care products being used. However, the causes on a large scale are easy to find and understand.
Long Illness – One of the more common causes of hair loss is a long bout with a serious illness or a very stressful period of family strife. Stress can cause many problems with your body with one being the excessive loss of hair.
Hormonal Imbalance – Another cause can be the hormonal imbalance brought on by something like a thyroid disease. Correcting a hormonal imbalance like the excess of androgens or estrogens could cause hair loss.
Pregnancy – Many women begin to lose hair a few months after pregnancy due to the loss of balance in their hormones. Another cause of hair loss, this is usually cured on its own several months after the hormones return to normal.
Infections – Certain types of fungal infections or degenerative diseases can cause hair loss. To overcome the fungal infections that cause hair loss the patient needs to purchase an anti-fungal shampoo or lotion.
Genetic – The biggest cause of hair loss is the genes being passed on from generation to generation. Though there are a number of wives tales, from the mother’s father and that it skips a generation, they are most commonly untrue. The only known genetic cause has nothing to do with what side of family or generation you are a part of, it is simply the luck of the draw.
There are a number of causes for hair loss, but the majority are undeniably untrue. Doctors, scientists, and any number of normal Joe’s have been attempting to understand baldness for hundreds of years, understand that when the true cause is found you will hear about it!

Wellness refers to the condition of good physical and mental health, especially when maintained by proper diet, exercise, and habits. Nutrition refers to the nurturing of our body, in our ability to keep it healthy and functioning as it is supposed to do. Our ability to provide the body with all the necessary food, vitamins, and minerals so that we continue to thrive in our daily life processes. But what makes us well?
The first place to start would be with the examination of your eating habits. Since we are a product of what we eat, if our eating habits are unhealthy, or do not provide for the nutrition we need, we’re not going to be healthy individuals at the end of the process. Do you take in more calories than your body needs? Are you supplementing your vitamins and minerals to make sure you are getting your recommended daily allowances? If you’re not making the most basic of efforts to take care of your nutritional needs, you aren’t a well individual.
Next, you might want to look at your exercise habits, if there are any. If there aren’t any exercise routines to examine, no wellness. Everyone, no matter what their age, benefits from exercise. Whether it is organized exercise activities, free weights, or simply establishing a personal routine, exercise is an excellent wellness tool. It keeps our bodies conditioned, our mental sharpness working at top speed, and thanks to the physical aspect, we get a boost to our cardio health, extra calorie burn, and more oxygen to those cells!
Being able to deal with and handle the daily stresses of life keeps us well. Making sure we take the time to accommodate our needs for stress relief, such as downtime, therapy time, massage time, or simply take the time for a nice, hot bath. The body tends to retain stress in the muscle of the shoulder and back. Taking the time to relax, do relaxation exercises, and combine this with physical exercise for the entire body, and you shouldn’t have any trouble maintaining a state of wellness.
Our personal habits either keep us well or prevent us from being well. If you smoke, drink, or lose sleep to excess you’re not the well individual you could be. Smoking, drinking, and loss of sleep work to our detriment, and it takes extreme discipline to stop. Smoking fills our body with carcinogens, and works to keep us tired and lethargic.
Giving ourselves adequate time to devote to all areas of our physical needs, from our nutritional intake needs, to our physical fitness needs, to the need for quite time contributes to our level of wellness. How well we allocate time for these needs, and the choices we make in fulfilling these needs, keeps us well.
There are so many occasions to stop and question our efforts at maintaining optimal health, that we usually don’t even take the time to begin the examination. But it is beneficial to our overall health, the quality and quantity of our life, to make every effort to be well, healthy, individuals.

Posted by HCA on Wednesday, 20 January 2010 - 2:36 pm - Filled under Quit Smoking
Your life is ready for a change and you just can’t figure out how to get to that elusive place you want to get to, the place where you quit smoking cigarettes. It is a disgusting habit that leaves an unpleasant odor and an even more unpleasant situation for your personal health in the long run. There are plenty of people who want to quit smoking but very few of them know how or when to get started. This is your time and this is your opportunity to make a difference in your life that will make you feel better about yourself on the inside and the outside.
The first thing for you to do is to make a time and a date that you will quit smoking for good without any relapses. Look forward to this date; every time it comes up in your mind think a positive thought, not a negative thought. Once the date comes you need to get rid of EVERYTHING in your home that has to do with cigarettes or smoking, not just the cigarettes. Don’t let friends and family smoke in front of you, tell them they don’t have to quit smoking, but they do around you.
Allow yourself to enjoy the support of those around you; don’t be shy or upset when someone mentions something negative about your previous smoking behavior. Take up a new habit that will occupy the time where you smoked in your previous life, whether it is jogging or crossword puzzles, ANYTHING to take up the time where you previously smoke a cigarette. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and enjoying things that you did not before when you were smoking. The key thing to remember is in the first weeks or months of quitting you need to make yourself feel special in some way shape or form.
It is possible to get medications from your family doctor or over the counter to help you quit smoking, but you need to know just how it will affect you physically before ingesting it. You need to understand that your mood and weight could fluctuate in the months after you quit smoking, make arrangements to work out or do things you like to overcome this. Try and remember that friends are important, but those who don’t help you overcome this aren’t worth being around for a while. Good luck with your goal to quit smoking!

Posted by HCA on Sunday, 17 January 2010 - 2:42 pm - Filled under Wrinkles
There are physical signs that show that a person is aging. A man for instance may lose hair or slowly change to grey. Our skin shows signs as well and to understand it, we have to know what wrinkles are.
The skin is made up of 3 layers namely the epidermis, the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. The outer layer namely the epidermis becomes thinner and less sticky as we age. This in turn causes dryness and as this decreases by 10% per decade, it takes more time for the skin to repair itself.
This also affects the dermis because less collagen is produced and the elastic fibers which provide us with elasticity also wears out which is why our skin also sags. We don’t sweat that much as before as there is a decrease as well in the number of sweat glands.
Now that we know where it can happen, we can describe what wrinkles are simply as ridges or creases on a surface.
But is aging the only cause of wrinkles? The answer is no. Studies have shown that exposure to ultraviolet light, UVA or UVB accounts for 90% of skin aging. This varies depending on race because of the person’s pigment protection.
A few other studies have shown that wrinkles can also be caused by environmental factors. Examples of these include cigarette smoking and pollution as this may hasten aging by producing oxygen free radicals. These are particles produced by many of the body’s chemical processes and when it is produced in excessive amounts, it can damage cell membranes causing not only wrinkle but other skin disorders as well.
Rapid weight loss may also cause wrinkles since you reduce the volume of fat cells that cushion around the face that will make the skin sag.
Now that we know what causes wrinkles, can it be treated? The answer is yes. Some dermatologists recommend retinoic acid which is applied to the skin to fill in the crevices. There are also things people can take such as topical creams and ointments to peel off the top layers of the skin, dermabrasion which is a procedure to sand the top layer of the skin, injecting collagen or botulinum under the skin and laser surgery.
Can anyone pursue any of the treatments mentioned? The answer is no. This depends on the patient’s age. Whichever you choose, you should ask the dermatologist how effective is the procedure, is it safe, possible complications and the experience of the professional.
In some cases, a combination of these procedures is necessary. The best part is knowing that this causes uniform destruction and shedding of the old damaged superficial skin cells so the healthier deeper cells will take their place on the surface.
There is not much that people can do to prevent wrinkles because this is normal as we age. But we can slow it down by staying indoors between 10 am to 4 pm when the sun is the hottest and washing the face with a mild non-soap cleanser. The skin should be patted dry and lubricated at once with a water based moisturizer ideally SPF30 filter to prevent further dehydration.
Now that you know what wrinkles are, we can take steps to delay it from happening or just accept it for what it is. After all, aging is a fact of life all of us will one day face.

Skin allergies are the result of many different factors. It may be a pet, a particular food, or a reaction to medications. Skin allergies can be embarrassing as well as itchy and painful. While they can’t be eliminated, they can be treated. There are several types of skin allergies.
Dermatis is the inflammation of skin. It is generally a rash resulting from contact with metals, chemicals, rubber, plants, and pets. Symptoms of dermatis are redness, swelling, burning, stinging, itching, and blisters. These symptoms generally appear on the face and hands.

This is common in small children who take medication for seasonal allergies. Often, the back is the only area to break out.
Uritcaria settles in the middle of the skin. It is caused by eating a food you are allergic to or a side effect of taking a medication. The area often looks burned because it is light red on the outer edges, and very red in the middle.

Asthma is an affection of the respiratory system, very common to both children and grownups. Its symptoms are shortness of breath, coughing, chest tightness or wheezing, this disease is manifest in repeated episodes usually triggered by various factors. Asthmatics are usually sensitive to stimulants like cold air, various illnesses similar with common colds or emotional stress. Many health care associations have focused their attention on asthma as no less than a quarter of the urban children suffer from various forms of this disease.
From a historical perspective, asthma is mentioned for the first time in Homer’s Iliad in 450 BC. In the second century AD, Galen wrote some studies about this problem but he didn’t provide solutions, his research was based mostly on personals observation. In 1190 a treatise about asthma was written by a Jewish doctor, he described some methods of prevention and various treatments. Later in the the 18th century an Italian, Bernardino Ramazzini wrote about the relationship between dust and asthma. The first effective treatment was introduced only in 1901 when bronchodilators were used for the first time. Even though they appeared in the beginning of the century anti–inflammatory medication was included in the asthmatics regime only in 1960.
Asthma has many sings and symptoms, the most general involves chronic respiratory problems, crises may be triggered by any of the factors previously mentioned while others can cause problems depending on each individual’s weaknesses. Airborne allergens and air pollutants are general irritants. Acute asthma attacks can make someone blue in the face and even cause loss of consciousness, as the pains can be unsupportable. Any doctor can give a diagnostic if he/she knows the patient’s health history or the family background as asthma can also be hereditary. It is harder to diagnose in the children’s cases as they don’t have a longer health record and more investigations are needed to confirm suspicion of asthma or not.
The worst thing is that asthma has no cure, if you get an ailment such asthma then you got it for a life time, as the medical world hasn’t come up with a cure, there are just ways of preventing strikes and nighttime problems. According to the gravity of the problem, asthma can be classified as mild intermittent, mild persistent, or with more serious forms as moderate persistent and severe persistent. Many people particularly in the urban areas are more and more effected by asthma every day and science still struggles to come up with a solution.

Acne vulgaris represents the most popular form of acne. In fact, acne vulgaris is translated as common acne. This skin problem is actually an inflammation that is caused by the alteration of certain skin structures. A pilosebaceous unit represents a skin structure that is composed of a hair follicle and a sebaceous gland. Acne vulgaris is commonly characterized by zits, pimples and spots.
Because the sebaceous glands produce more oil during puberty, acne vulgaris is more frequent in that period. This type of acne becomes less visible or may even disappear in time. However, it is very important to know that it may lead to serious complications and may leave significant scars. In conclusion, people are recommended to use a treatment, rather than waiting the symptoms to disappear.
The overproduction of oil obstructs the hair follicles. As a result, dead skin cells become visible. Furthermore, the skin cells do not shed anymore, fact that determines the dead skin cells to accumulate. The oil that is produced in excess represents a favorable setting for the bacteria. The inflammation that becomes visible is in fact the reaction of the immune system. There are certain areas on the body where this reaction can be better observed: on the back, face, shoulder, chest and upper arms.
The main causes of acne vulgaris are represented by intense hormonal activity, stress, diet, sebaceous glands that produce oil in excess, bacteria, skin inflammation, anabolic steroids, halogens and chlorine. Stress is believed to cause acne vulgaris because the adrenal glands, also known as stress glands, produce hormones in excess when the body is under pressure. Though, most of the cases of acne vulgaris are related to an overproduction of hormones which usually occurs during menstrual cycles and puberty. People must know that not all the hormones are related to acne vulgaris.

No diet without weight loss help! This is the motto of many clinics and health programs that support overweight people, and they are available on the Internet as well as in popular centers around the world. How can such programs actually be useful to those who want to start a diet? People usually don’t know what their body’s needs really are, which is why detailed information on proper nutrition, physical exercises and alternative weight loss therapies proves an enormous support. Let’s have a look at what else to expect from weight loss help centers, since there are a complexity of factors at stake when it comes to one’s self-esteem and looks.
There are very specific situations when overeating has a definite psychological cause, and in such a case, professional weight loss help is necessary. An informative column wouldn’t simply do. Most often, psychologically-related overeating disorders originate in stressful work conditions, depression, break-ups or other emotional issues. In such cases, the extra pounds are only one side of the problem: the external one. Weight loss help proves all the more efficient when it manages to put an end to an addictive dependence on food. Re-building self-confidence and eliminating the source of overeating are the only remedies under the circumstances.
Following the advice in weight loss help columns actually implies setting a definite program to follow every day; thus creating some good habits that make you develop a healthier life style. For instance, regular physical activity, fiber-rich food together with fresh fruit and vegetables are among the very basic rules for a normal life. Furthermore, in case you have some special physical condition and you don’t know what exercises suit you, it is a good idea to enter the weight loss help forums and see if you can find information with the other members or supporters of the group.
For instance, one of the most popular weight loss help ideas is to combine a normal, balanced diet with swimming or hydro-massage. Swimming is considered a complete sport, stimulating all the muscles in the body, thus accelerating the elimination process of fat excess deposited under the skin. Studies show that people who use swimming as a weight loss help, burn more calories than those who go to the gym for instance, and all this without consuming that much body energy as in the case of complex fitness exercises. However, it is ideal to check all your options and choose the one that best suits your life style.

Allergies are the inflammations that result from the sensitivity to certain objects, called allergens. The inflammations occur when the immune system reacts to that particular object. People all over the world suffer from allergies. There are many types of allergies. The most common are seasonal allergies that are the result of certain trees, plants, or pollens in the air at certain times of the year. Other people experience allergies to particular foods or animals.
Symptoms of allergies vary by person. They are classified by degree of severity, including mild, moderate, and severe allergic reactions. While there is no cure for allergies, they can be treated. Most people experience only mild symptoms. They may include watery eyes, itchy skin, a runny nose, coughing, and hives. This type of allergy can be controlled by using an antihistamine. There are several over the counter available, as well as those you can only get with a prescription. You can help reduce the affects by remaining indoors during that time of year. You may also want to consider getting an allergy shot.
For others, the allergic reaction is moderate. Often, the reaction has spread to other parts of the body. They may find it difficult to breath. A severe allergic reaction can be life threatening. This may be the reaction to various molds. Antihistemines, steroids, and immunotherapy can all held remedy the effects.
While very rare, they are a serious matter. Generally these are the result of food allergies. Peanuts, milk, and eggs are the most common. Symptoms include swelling of the face, abdominal pain, cramps, hives, and angioedema which are hives inside the throat. It is important to seek immediate medical attention for symptoms of a severe allergic reaction. Often a shot can help offset the reaction. The hives and rashes take longer to go away. They can be reduced by using a cortisone cream.
An interesting allergy is to latex. The material is often used in gloves many people use to clean their homes. The skin often turns red and itchy. For people with asthma, a latex allergy can be life threatening because it can block the airways.
Some people have a severe allergy to insects, especially those with stingers. They may require medical attention to receive a shot of epinephrine.
