What if you went in for brain surgery and the doctor told you they weren’t going to do what was best for you, but what seemed to work best for MOST people? Would you be concerned? Do you think this type of surgery would be safe for your future or the doctor’s career? I didn’t think so, now there is something to correct this problem, a new procedure called custom LASIK.
Custom LASIK uses three dimensional images of your eyes and how they accept light to determine the best route for your surgery. This procedure called custom LASIK using wave-front technology is more precise than any pair of glasses, contacts, or even other LASIK procedures.
By using a few simple computer-generated tests to analyze the way your eye refracts light, the computer determines the best course of action. The fact that this custom LASIK uses the three dimensional image particular to the patient, the chance for an uneven or poorly constructed flap over the cornea is reduced.
There are more hoops for you to jump through if you are going to be a patient in custom LASIK surgery:
- You must be qualified by the FDA based on your eye condition before receiving custom LASIK.
- Your doctor will present your choices regarding extra costs for your custom LASIK.
- Your doctor will determine if your eye’s condition is such that custom LASIK presents the best result.
What are the advantages of custom LASIK?
- Better chance of 20/20 vision or better.
- Reduced chance of night vision disturbances or glaring.
- Reduced chance of losing visual quality or contrast sensitivity.
Studies show that despite the cost of custom LASIK, more people are opting for this procedure than regular LASIK. However, it is important to discuss with your doctor what is correctable before the surgery. Even though custom LASIK is the most efficient form of LASIK it does not correct any type of eye problem at this time.

With the plethora of hair restoration formulas on the market it is difficult to determine which is right for you. Some formulas will claim to do everything short of cleaning your kitchen and taking your kids to school, but some formulas are actually worth considering. Before you decide on what formula is best for you, try to weed through some potential pitfalls of the process.
Hair restoration formulas like Revivogen formula derive natural oils and herbs to make the formula that contains a powerful anti-DHT chemical. This scalp therapy formula only takes a few minutes a day to maintain and control. After shaking the bottle and pouring a dab of the restoration formula on your hand you gently massage it to the scalp for around 20 seconds. No washing of the hair for two or three hours and application of this formula should take between four and six months to show progress.
Some hair restoration formulas contain emu oil which is a natural and powerfully penetrating product. This thickens the skin in the area where the restoration formula is being applied in hopes of getting blood to the hair root and papilla. This formula can immediately affect the hair growth in the area in which it is applied, but shouldn’t be used for instant results.
As you can see, hair restoration formulas offer different chemicals in order to achieve the same effect, hair growth. Hair restoration or hair growth has been a problem for years upon years and decades upon decades without some very intelligent people coming up with a solution. Nobody is going to come up with it overnight without you knowing, so if you don’t know the hair restoration formula or what they are about, don’t try it.
As is the case in many fields concerned with the internet, if a hair growth formula sounds too good to be true, it is. If there was a viable candidate in the field of restoration formula then everybody with baldness would be using it to cure the problem. There is not a guaranteed hair growth formula, but with different strokes for different folks, you could find a solution on your own.

Whenever a patient undergoes any type of surgical procedure there is a possibility for complications. It is natural that when a person’s body is opened up and tools are in use that bacteria of some can enter the patient or the body could have a reaction related to the medication. LASIK surgery is no different, there are risks to LASIK surgery, but they are few and far between.
LASIK risk continues to drop as doctors and engineers perfect the equipment used in the process. The risks involved in LASIK also drop as doctors continue to screen for the right candidates to have the surgery. Research now shows that with the right pre-testing and surgical care the risk of any complications in LASIK surgery are less than 1%.
The most common risk with LASIK surgery is a complication with the flap created by the surgeon to cover the cornea. In traditional LASIK surgery the flap is created when tissue is cut by a surgical tool known as a microkeratome. Since this tool, a metal blade is used by a human being there remains a risk related to human error.
When this type of traditional LASIK is performed the risk is when the flap is then used as the natural bandage at the end of the surgery it is not the right size. Therefore, the complication is an irregular bandage that irritates the eye and causes what is known as an irregular astigmatism. This LASIK risk is greatly reduced by a newer “bladeless” LASIK procedure.
In bladeless LASIK the risk of complication is reduced because the blade or microkeratome is no longer used. It is replaced by IntraLase, or another type of laser, that eliminates the human error.
When assessing these LASIK risks it is recommended that when you are considering LASIK surgery that you ask your doctor how he/she goes about correcting these problems. Some complications that arise from LASIK can be made even worse by over or under correction. Ask your doctor as part of your original process how they handle this situation.

As a child, you may have kept a diary to record your daily activities, your hopes, and your fears. If you wrote in the diary each day, it might have seemed as if the diary itself had become one of your best friends. As you grew older, the diary might have become a record of your job search, love life, or wedding plans. Psychologists, in fact, tell us that writing down your goals can be the first step to achieving them. It has been demonstrated that individuals who kept a written record of their hunt for employment were more likely to find the job they wanted than those who did not.
It’s not surprising, then, that some dieticians recommend keeping a food diary or journal if you’re hoping to lose weight. If you’re not accustomed to writing, the idea can seem a bit daunting at first. After all, if you don’t seem to have the time to record all of your baby’s “firsts”—the first words, the first steps, the first day of reciting the alphabet—how can you be expected to find the time to write down everything that passes through your lips? It’s a valid question; however, if you stop to consider just how much time you spend eating, surely you can find the time to write down what you eat.
The key to keeping a food diary is motivation. You have to have a desire to record your food choices. One good way to do this is to place a picture of your heaviest self onto the cover of a notebook. Also, make sure that you keep the notebook in full view, either on your bedside table or on the kitchen table. This could provide you with just the incentive you need to make note of what you’re eating. Another motivating factor could be to log your daily weight at the beginning of each diary entry. That way, you can see if your dietary choices are having an effect on your weight. If you find that you are shedding pounds, you can affix a gold star next to your entry. The gold star can provide the psychological boost necessary to continue to lose weight.
Of course, the next question you’ll face is: What exactly should I write down for each entry? To begin with, just include a running list of foods, along with portion sizes. You might be surprised to find out not only what you’re eating, but also how large the portions are. Next, categorize each food entry. Is it a fruit, vegetable, whole grain, or fat? Such information could be vitally important in determining where your excess pounds are coming from.
You can also use your journal for meal planning. If you think about what you should eat ahead of time, you’ll be less likely to indulge in the wrong foods. Such planning can make you feel more organized and more in control—two important elements for losing weight.
If you indulge in comfort food every once in a while, don’t panic. Eating high-calorie foods occasionally can help prevent a feeling of deprivation which can lead to overeating. The key is to eat “bad foods” in moderation. It is also important that you write down everything you eat, including fatty foods. Trying to hide your food choices by not writing them down is counter-productive and could lead to feelings of guilt.
Yet another helpful idea is to write down your goal weight each day. This can be an important element of psychological warfare. Knowing what your goal is—and mapping out a way to get there—can improve your chances of achieving critical milestones.
Also, when possible, try to make your diary experience fun. Do your writing on the patio, by the pool, or in your bathtub. Set the mood by playing some of your favorite music in the background. Decorate your diary by using colored pens or colorful stickers. Whatever you can do to make your diary-keeping chores more interesting will certainly be helpful.
Be aware of the fact that it could take you a while to get into the diary-keeping habit. But, once you see those pounds melt away, you’ll find it’s well worth the investment of time and energy.

Nothing can cure a bald man’s confidence more than the return of his hair, but what hair loss system is best to use? Many doctors will tell you that hair restoration is the way to go when trying to return to that look that brought you so much glory once upon a time. It is a difficult procedure to understand and an even more difficult decision to make in the first place. But just how does hair restoration work?
The first step of the restoration process is to evaluate the donor’s head to determine the areas of the head that are designed not to shed. Hair restoration or transplantation requires a certain degree of hair density on the donor’s head before the restoration can continue. Once the doctor is sufficiently pleased with the situation the hair restoration can move to the next stage.
Next, a small section of tissue will be removed from the donor’s head to truly begin the restoration. It is dissected under a microscope into micro grafts and follicle units that will help with the next step of the process. The doctor must then become an artist to be able to gracefully place the units and grafts into the right place on the patient’s head to make the hair restoration take shape.
A natural looking hairline is created in the restoration by placing the single follicle units into the right places on the scalp. The restoration will not look right unless the angles and zones are used properly by the hair restoration surgeon, so make sure you choose wisely before the procedure even begins.
Density and volume is provided for the balding areas by placing larger follicle units behind the hairline. The artistic vision of the surgeon will determine the naturalness of the hair’s appearance after the hair restoration is complete. Make sure that you choose the right surgeon for your hair restoration or the whole process could be for not.

The condition of our skin tells a lot about who we are. If it is not that elastic or as thinner as before, then you may already have wrinkled skin. The question now is, can we prevent it?
A lot of experts believe that we are only delaying the inevitable. There have been advances in the dermatological field which people can use as well as home remedies that have proven to be quite effective.
You can use lotions or facial creams that contain AHA’s or alpha-hydroxic acids. This contains Vitamin A and is usually extracted from milk, fruits and sugar cane and works by clearing away dead cells on the surface of the skin. It encourages collagen growth which fills in the wrinkles and also counteracts free radicals that can damage the skin.
The only side effect is skin irritation which happens on occasion. You can test the product you are using by rubbing a little of this on a small patch of skin behind the ear. If it doesn’t turn red the day after then it is safe for you to use.
You should also exfoliate your skin twice weekly to remove dead and dry skin cells and encourage the body to produce new skin cells. This enables the skin to absorb the cream or the moisturizer better since it is hydrated.
You can prevent wrinkles the natural way by cutting a piece from an aloe vera plant and then apply this to the skin as the leaf itself contains malic acid. Papaya is another good example to use because it contains enzymes that can etch away the top layer of the skin.
Apply a moisturizer every morning after washing as this helps retain moisture in the skin. Ideally, this should contain SPF30 so it can protect you from the sun’s ultra-violet rays which also cause wrinkles to appear. A natural method would be to use fresh avocado as this contains vitamin E which is an anti-oxidant.
Aside from applying creams to your face, you can also prevent wrinkles by watching your diet and drinking lots of water. The food you consume should be rich in Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids that will help you achieve healthy skin cell structure.
You should also exercise regularly as this helps maintain general health and improve circulation to the skin. You shouldn’t smoke or drink too much because it defeats the purpose of all the safeguards you have done to prevent wrinkles.
Stress forces us to make excessive use of the facial muscles which causes the skin to crease into expression lines. To prevent that from happening, don’t frown too much or raise your eye brows in surprise.
Lastly, as much as possible try to stay indoors especially between 10 am and 4pm since this is the time that it is very hot outside. If you have to go out, wear a hat and even a pair of sunglasses as well as an umbrella to protect your arms.
Can we prevent wrinkled skin? The answer is yes as long as we take the appropriate steps. Those mentioned above are much cheaper than having to undergo laser surgery or injecting some chemical into the body so do your best before you have to resort to other means.

Posted by HCA on Sunday, 2 May 2010 - 2:59 pm - Filled under Stress & Anxiety
You may be restless at night, tossing and turning in your bed because of excessive worry. You may find yourself cracking under pressure, whether when preparing for a test or when you get ready to report to the boss. But does your uneasiness qualify as actual anxiety?
We seem to be an angst-ridden society. Television news programs offer us a long list of worries: from what’s in your toddler’s milk to whether your high schooler will graduate with a 4.0 average. It seems at times as if we are a nation of worry warts. We obsess about crime, the stock market, civil rights, hunger, AIDs, the SATs, and global warming. You might even nickname your local newspaper “The Worry Pages.”
In order to effectively deal with anxiety, we must first be able to define it. There are certain recognizable symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder which you should pay attention to. For instance, anxiety can be characterized by restlessness, an inability to relax, shakiness, and tics. You may feel your heart racing or feel light-headed. Your stomach might seem queasy and you may experience shortness of breath.
You might seem overwhelmed by a feeling of fear. You might dread tomorrow because you wonder what disasters will befall your family. You may experience insomnia, irritability, impatience, and an inability to concentrate. You may also feel impatient or on edge.
If any of these symptoms persist for more than a month, you have probably succumbed to generalized anxiety disorder. Your anxiety might be so severe that you also experience a phobia. This is an irrational worry about a situation—a worry so debilitating that you go out of your way to avoid a certain object or situation. While you yourself may sense that something is wrong, you may feel as if you lack the power to do anything about it. If the fear is severe, it is considered a full-fledged disorder. While phobias may not always plague those with anxiety disorders, they may accompany anxiety.
You should know that there are three major types of phobias. Agoraphobia is a fear of a public place such as a shopping mall or town square. You may have a fear that you will not be able to escape the area if you need to. Meanwhile, a social phobia is a fear of talking with or otherwise interacting with people. You may fear that you will embarrass yourself in front of a person or group. A simple phobia is a fear of a particular object or activity such as dogs, flying, or germs.
Anxiety can also lead to a panic disorder. A panic attack generally involves racing heart beat, chest pain, dizziness, perspiration, or a fear of dying. It can be highly debilitating, preventing an individual from being able to perform work or another important function. It can seriously curtail one’s social life, causing an individual to become isolated.
There are numerous causes of anxiety. These include stress, nutritional problems, and chemical imbalances. Treatment most often comes in the form of prescription drugs such as Clonidine or Clonazepam. You should be careful, however, to review the side-effects of such drugs. In some cases, patients might find themselves to be dependent on the medication.
You might also find that it helps to become part of a support group. There is a special bond which grows between individuals who are forced to combat the same demons. You may discover that you can draw strength from talking with other people who share the same struggles you do. With such support, you won’t feel so alone. It’s comforting to know that there is someone you can turn to in the midst of your pain.
Anxiety can be a painful and debilitating condition, harming one’s self-image, one’s relationship with family members, and one’s ability to perform one’s job. It can also lead to panic attacks, which lead to another set of serious problems. Fortunately, there has been a great deal of research in recent years regarding anxiety disorders. With appropriate treatment, people who suffer from anxiety disorders can learn to function effectively. However, treatment often involves a great deal of work and determination. In time, you should be able to ascertain the most effective methods of treating your condition.
