Cost of LASIK eye surgery

Posted by HCA on Wednesday, 30 June 2010 - 2:23 pm - Filled under Eye Disorders

The cost of LASIK surgery is generally considered to be high because of the idea of using lasers and other high tech equipment. However, the LASIK cost continues to come down due to improvements being made to the overall process. Don’t simply go to the lowest cost when choosing a surgeon; consider the following that may increase cost.

  • Leasing or purchasing of the laser as well as maintenance of the blades or lasers can increase LASIK cost.
  • Per eye fee to the developer or manufacturer of the laser to pay for the cost of the machine.
  • Gowns, masks, gloves, medications, or surgical solutions to keep the operating room sterile and safe.
  • Advertising and insurance for the office.
  • The cost of LASIK can be reduced if the surgeon is part of the staff, eliminating his fee.

When you are considering different LASIK surgery opportunities you should question your surgeon on what is included in the cost of the LASIK surgery.

  • What is and isn’t included in the LASIK cost?
  • What will I be charged for if complications occur or enhancements are needed?
  • What is the cost for LASIK medications such as anti-inflammatory or painkillers?
  • What is the cost for temporary contact lenses if they are needed after LASIK?
  • What is the cost of the follow-up visits related to LASIK?

Finally, you should get in contact with your insurance company to determine if they will cover the cost of the LASIK surgery. Some insurance companies don’t cover LASIK cost because they consider the surgery to be cosmetic. If financing is not a problem you should strongly consider using the LASIK surgeon who best suits your needs and concerns.

The average cost of LASIK surgery performed in the U.S. in 2010 was approximately $2,000 per eye. Many consider this surgery cost to be marginal in relation to the comfort created by newly improved vision.

What you need to know about weight gain

Posted by HCA on Wednesday, 23 June 2010 - 3:54 pm - Filled under Gain Weight

Today, more and more people are into weight gain. It can be for aesthetic reasons or for health purposes. To know if weight gain is bad or good for you, it is always best to conduct a research about its indicators as well as of its advantages and disadvantages so you will have an idea if you’re into the right thing.

As defined, weight gain refers to the increase in a person’s body weight brought by intake of too many calories, lack of physical activity such as regular exercise, or a side effect of certain types of medication. However, it can also be a result of a certain set of workout routine—such as those in bodybuilding—wherein muscles tend to increase in terms of weight.

Experts say that weight gain is usually done by people because of two reasons. One, they want to build muscles for a fit body. This is very common to people who need big and bulging muscles for their jobs such gym instructors, fitness gurus, bodybuilding coaches, bouncers, bodyguards, weightlifters, and the like. Today, weight gain through body building has also become popular with the emergence of various bodybuilding contests where contestants are required to show off their muscles. The second reason why people gain weight is because of their health.

Weight gain is highly recommended to those people who have lost so much body fat due to dieting and especially to those who have developed various eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia. People—especially women who are believed to suffer more from this condition—are advised to gain weight to recover from all the body fats and nutrients they have lost.

To know if you are gaining some weight, check for its symptoms such as a rounder belly, certain increase in the fat percentage of the body, increased mass of muscles and increase in the level of body’s hydration.

Experts say that it can be hard to determine if a person’s weight gain is good or not. This is because people have different individual needs that need to be paid attention to. Although knowing the ideal weight for a person’s height can be a god indicator, it is always best to consult with a physician to avoid further complications.

If you are preparing for a routine for weight gain, here are some helpful tips:

1. Focus on set of workouts routines that can help you increase your body fat and muscles. Experts say that this is one of the most effective ways of gaining weight without having to worry about obesity. Since you burn only the unnecessary fats, you are paving the way for your muscles to gain weight.

2. Eat a balanced diet. This is very important if you are aiming for weight gain because it serves as your guide on what kind of food you should eat and the proper amount to get the weight that you desire.
Having a balanced diet will not only ensure weight gain but also the development of good eating habits in you.

3. Spend enough time for your target weight gain. Just like in losing weight, weight gain also requires utmost time and dedication. If you are into weight gain, make sure that you are serious about it so you will achieve the results that you want.

Tips to get started with detoxification

Posted by HCA on Sunday, 20 June 2010 - 2:37 pm - Filled under Detoxification

Just as there are many ways in which a person is able to physically cleanse themselves, so too are there many ways in which a person is able to cleanse themselves on the inside. This process of cleansing our bodies on the inside is called detoxification. Detoxification already helps a great deal of people in the United States and throughout the world and there are many reasons that are used that detail the benefits of a detoxification process. Just knowing that a detoxification process will help cleanse the inside of our bodies should be enough so that it will attract many more people to the process. However, many people choose not to engage in detoxification for one reason or another. One common excuse that people give, though, is that they are too difficult to maintain. However, there are some important tips to think about when starting a detoxification process for the first time.

1. Keep the Benefits in Mind
While on the detoxification diet one thing to remember while doing everything throughout the day or detoxification weekend is the benefits. Many people are easily able to get side-tracked and overcome by the difficulties of the detox process, such as drinking horrible-tasting liquids. This is exactly the reason why all of the benefits of a detoxification system must be kept in mind!

2. Start Out Small
If you have never performed a detoxification diet before then the best thing to do would be to start out small in the midst of your dieting. For example, one general rule of thumb to stick by is to make your detoxification diet last for 2-3 days during the whole process. For example, on the first day you should allow yourself to have regular food along with some of the other elements of the diet. On the second day of the detoxification, only water and less of the regular food should be allowed. On the third and final day of the diet one should allow themselves to undergo a full body cleansing, which includes strictly water, along with natural and plain fruit and vegetable juices, along with herbs and vegetable soups.

By starting out small in a detoxification diet those who are worried will be encouraged by the positive effects that they are seeing. It is important to remember, though, to never give up and that your body will be benefited in the end!

3. Relax
A first-timer to the detoxification process could have many fears about the products and liquids that he or she may be drinking for the first time. It is important that this detoxification process and weekend be a time of relaxation with no worries about the family or work at the office. Individuals should not only engage in relaxing physical exercises during the day, but meditation should also be practiced.

By doing all of these things one is certain to experience the full benefits of a body detoxification. By allowing oneself to start out small, realize the benefits of a detox cleanse, and relax then they are quickly able to get through the process easier than before!

How to know if you have Arthritis

Posted by HCA on Friday, 18 June 2010 - 2:16 pm - Filled under Arthritis

Arthritis can be hard to diagnose because there are over a hundred different forms, each producing different symptoms. In some types, the first arthritis symptom appears only in the advanced stages. However, joint pain and inflammation are considered early signs of the disease. If at least one of your joints is constantly painful or swollen, have it looked at by your doctor or a specialist. This may involve a series of tests, since a proper diagnosis cannot be made from just one arthritis symptom. Here are some typical symptoms associated with common arthritis types.

Osteoarthritis

The first signs of osteoarthritis are chronic pain, stiffness, and impaired mobility. Patients describe it as a sharp ache or burning sensation in the affected area, accompanied by muscle spasms and often worse during humid weather. When the joint is touched or moved, the bones can produce a crackling sound called “crepitus.” If the toes or fingers are affected, the main arthritis symptom is a bony formation called a Heberden’s node or a Bouchard’s node (depending on the site).

Rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are unique in that they develop symmetrically; that is, the left and right counterparts are both affected. The pain is usually worse in the morning, accompanied by a general stiffness that lasts up to one hour. Another unique rheumatoid arthritis symptom is tenderness around the affected joints, caused by severe swelling of the joint tissues. Anemia, dry eyes, and heart and lung problems may occur even in the early to mid-stages of the disease.

Gout

Gout is characterized by a sudden excruciating pain in the joint, usually the big toe. The pain actually comes from two sources – the hard crystals inside the joint, and the skin over the affected area. Because the skin is also swollen, even the slightest touch, such as a draping fabric, can cause intense pain. This arthritis symptom is easily recognized, as the uric acid creates a noticeable bulge in the joint.

Juvenile arthritis

Early symptoms of juvenile arthritis include non-specific, such as poor appetite, lethargy, and low physical activity. These are often wrongly attributed to other conditions until the child starts to limp, which is often the first specific arthritis symptom. This may be followed by persistent swelling of one or more joints, usually including the knees, ankles, wrists, hands and feet. The patient may also experience pain in the early stages, but is often unable to communicate the symptom.

Hair restoration cost

Posted by HCA on Monday, 14 June 2010 - 5:13 pm - Filled under Hair Loss

Just about everybody you come across that considers having some sort of personal appearance change is motivated by one factor, cost. Cost of hair restoration is no different from any other personal appearance altering procedure; it can be costly for any type of consumer. While financial concerns should never be the complete decision making factor, the hair restoration cost should be viewed with care.

The difficulty with deciding between hair restoration surgeries based on the cost is that every doctor and every clinic seems to charge based on a different scale. The cost of some hair restorations are based on the price per hair involved in the procedure. Others are based on the price per graft involved in the procedure. Still the cost in some other situations are based on the price per session it takes to complete the procedure. So what does all of this confusion mean to you?

The cost of hair restoration can be difficult to ascertain in relation to price comparisons because there is no central way of advertising the cost. As was mentioned before, some doctors will charge between $3 and $10 per graft. Some doctors will then just advertise a simple flat cost of $3,000 to $15,000 for the procedure. Now, you have a difficult decision, how do you compare these costs? The best way is to simply consult a few doctors or specialists before deciding on the right procedure.

Obviously, the hair restoration cost is a very important part of the process to decide what procedure is best for you. Many doctors or surgeons understand the importance of regaining hair and will therefore work on the cost with the patient to ensure a practical and probable solution. Since the procedure lasts a lifetime, doctors will custom tailor a procedure to you, possibly make a payment system, thereby reducing the concerns related to the hair restoration cost.

Bladeless LASIK – pros & cons

Posted by HCA on Thursday, 10 June 2010 - 5:04 pm - Filled under Eye Disorders

While LASIK is a relatively low risk surgery, bladeless LASIK eliminates the one area where most complications arise, the metal blade. Aside from the fear it strikes into the heart of those who fear traditional surgery, it still has a very human error rate in a very difficult low-percentage situation.

While many people who are rejected for LASIK are rejected for thin corneas, bladeless LASIK offers these people a second chance. IntraLase lasers offer a more controlled environment in the bladeless LASIK surgery. Instead of cutting through with a blade, the laser is guided by computer technology.

The IntraLase laser allows for more curvature during the bladeless LASIK surgery, reducing the margin for error. The fact that it is a laser and not a blade also lends to the idea of avoiding infections or contaminations. Bladeless LASIK prevents long-term recovery that accompanies most surgeries.

Prior to LASIK a lot of people had unsafe or imperfect surgeries to correct vision that eliminated them from the opportunity to try LASIK. With bladeless LASIK, these potential customers get a second chance because of the near 100% success rate of the procedure.

Some patients follow traditional LASIK with follow-ups to make other corneal flaps or reduce eye-irritation. Bladeless LASIK with InterLase appear to have reduced the possibility of this happening.

The natural reaction to the thought of bladeless LASIK is that it eliminates the need for a practiced and season doctor to perform the surgery. While it may be true to a point, the fact is that bladeless LASIK requires a good deal of knowledge in physics and engineering.

Advantages:
- A reduced risk for corneal flap complications;
- Reduced risk of dry eye;
- Precise correction;
- Patients experience less discomfort during surgery,
Disadvantages:
- It causes more uncomfortable suction on the eye;
- Bladeless procedures are often more expensive than traditional LASIK.

While surgeons may have only been required to have knowledge of medicine and anatomy in the past, they now must be computer savvy. The advantages of bladeless LASIK seem to boil down to two basic ideas, a higher success rate and less chance of follow-up procedures.

Green tea health benefits

Posted by HCA on Sunday, 6 June 2010 - 3:13 pm - Filled under Uncategorized

Many people in America have always liked to drink tea. Even as coffee became more popular after the many fights of taxes over tea, people didn’t quit drinking it outright. Today many more people drink tea and the number continues to grow. With all of the talk about the benefits of green tea, a lot more people are starting to drink it. Coffee might always be the hot beverage of choice in the United States but tea is catching up quickly.

The benefits of green tea are always listed as health benefits and rightly so. But there are other benefits rarely even talked about. Tea acts to calm the stomach which in turn makes people calmer and in a better mood. Tea does have caffeine but a single cup of tea has less than fifty percent less caffeine than coffee. The effects of less caffeine and a calmer stomach make people more content. The jittery feeling people get from drinking coffee all day long is gone. Many people find that they actually do a better job at work and have more energy. People who know the benefits of green tea are generally far better off than those who don’t.

The physical benefits of green tea

In the Asian countries including Japan and China green tea has always been a part of the diet. These countries have now performed scientific studies to gain understanding of the benefits of green tea. These studies have found that in Asian woman the incidence of certain types of cancer is greatly decreased when several cups of green tea are consumed daily. The studies have also found that green tea may aid in preventing respiratory infections and other types of infections. The chemicals in green tea have an impact on carcinogens and seem to also work to boost the immune system. Green tea may also work to reduce cholesterol levels and aid in cardiovascular functioning. People with rheumatoid arthritis may also find the great benefit of having a reduction in symptoms when they add green tea to their diets.

These green tea benefits are the ones which have been found in the most recent scientific studies but there are many more benefits which scientists suspect may come from the tea. All in all, green tea is a delicious beverage which has been found to aid the human body in many ways. It does seem to be a good choice for health conscious individuals.

Why you should choose a natural acne treatment?

Posted by HCA on Sunday, 6 June 2010 - 2:08 pm - Filled under Acne

Even though very serious cases have not been reported, the medication that is used in the treatment of acne may have side effects. In addition, the medication may be very expensive. Because of these two reasons, people are advised to try alternative treatments. In other words, people who suffer from acne are advised to choose a natural acne treatment. This remedy refers either to diets or to herbs and other natural products that have proved their efficiency.

Improving the symptoms is possible by altering the diet. Certain foods are known to act as a natural acne treatment. The most frequent advice in this case is to consume as many fruits and vegetables as possible. In fact, people are recommended to eat fruits and vegetables in at least five servings each day. The fat levels also represent an aspect that needs special attention. The Omega-3 fat is essential for the brain and it also plays an important role in the development of acne. The intake of this fat must be increased. This is possible by consuming avocados, fish, flax seeds and walnuts. On the other hand, the Omega-6 level must be decreased. In addition, the Omega-3 and Omega-6 levels must be as close as possible.

Another natural acne treatment implies medicinal herbs and products based on such plants. These supply the liver and many other organs with nutritive substances. In addition, the medicinal herbs are meant to purify the entire body, fact that leads to a decrease in the production of sebum and eventually to an improvement of the acne symptoms.

When looking for a natural acne treatment or when already using such a treatment, it is very important to know what should be avoided. First of all, prescription medicine must be avoided. Benzoyl peroxide is a chemical substance that has very strong effects on the body. This substance is also very effective when used as a treatment for acne, but must be avoided by people who want an exclusively natural remedy. Food additives are also considered dangerous. Furthermore, the hydrogenated oils found in all the fried foods, peanut butter as well as in the majority of the desserts. These oils must be entirely excluded from the diet because they are very dangerous. Consuming foods that contain hydrogenated oils along with foods that are rich in Omega-3 fat will make the acne symptoms considerably worse. This happens because the hydrogenated oils do not allow the good fats to be assimilated by the body.

Easy ways to quit smoking

Posted by HCA on Thursday, 3 June 2010 - 12:17 pm - Filled under Quit Smoking

There is a constant need in our society to have everything that we want, when we want it, and how we want it, including easy ways to quit smoking. Nobody is interested in the tried and true method of going cold turkey with a strong will and awesome support system… nope… we want the easy ways to quit smoking. Well this will not be easy to hear for you, but there is a multitude of ways for you to quit smoking, just not any truly easy ways to stop smoking. Remember the old tried and true and you can quit smoking without ever going back.

Your best friend during your attempt to quit smoking is the idea that there are no easy ways to quit smoking. First, realize that what you are doing is going to be hard, it will take time and it won’t be fun in the least possible bit. Next, realize that your best friend in the world, be it your parents, spouse, kids, or longtime friend is the person that will have the most effect on the process. They can remind you of life on the outside of your inner cravings, in addition to reminding you that it is all worth it, that there are people that love you enough to want you to quit.

If you do decide to take a route that is commonly referred to as one of the easy ways to quit smoking like acupuncture or hypnosis, make it a lifestyle, not a gimmick. These “easy” ways to quit smoking are seen as easy because they require an abnormal approach to the process. However, if you take this easy way to quit smoking as an easy way for you to create a worthwhile hobby then you may really make your goal of quitting after all. Whatever you do, just make sure you find something to fill in the gaps where you would have lit a cigarette in a previous life.

Those that are usually looking at the easy ways to quit smoking aren’t truly looking to quit just yet, but they are in the preliminary stages of the process. They may try one of the easy ways to quit smoking, but then relapse to blow all of the good that they had created. Those that succeed do so because they work hard at what they do and treat it as if it was another important part of their life, not just one of the easy ways to quit smoking.
