There are a lot of people who are overweight. For those who are obese, perhaps surgery is the best option but for those who can’t, they can try to see if acupuncture can help take out the excess weight.
Acupuncture is a form of holistic healthcare that uses needles to help treat a patient. Unlike the cartoon where the balloon will pop and all the air will go out, the needles that are inserted into the vital points will stimulate the body to release endorphins thus helping the person control their appetite.
But before needles are inserted, the specialist will first ask the patient some questions and perform an examination. This is needed to understand the main cause for the person to be overweight.
Part of examination is to help the acupuncturist figure out where the needles will be inserted. Your pulse will give the person an idea on your general state of energy and the general health of your stomach.
You will also have to open your mouth and show your tongue to check for cracks, peelings or puffiness on the stomach area as this provides clues to why you are overweight.
Once he or she knows the reason, this is the time that the needles are inserted into different parts of the body. One way is called the multi-targeted approach which is designed to lower the body’s weight by increasing the output of the pituitary gland.
The areas where the needles will be inserted will be in the ear and in two of three body points. These areas could also include the mouth, the stomach, the lung, the endocrine, the spleen, kidney or thyroid.
During the initial treatment, the “Four Gate” points would be used to circulate energy throughout the entire body. It is also possible that electro simulation will also be done to increase endorphin release and stimulate metabolism.
These needles will be kept in place for 30 to 45 minutes depending on how much support is needed. These are then removed and replaced with ear tacs with adhesives to make sure they are in the same spot as the needles.
These ear tacs work by applying mild pressure whenever he or she feels hungry. It causes a mild endorphin release and helps the patient relax making it possible to use their willpower and resist the temptation to eat.
The patient will also have to reduce cravings on certain food by cutting down the intake. Some studies suggest that this can also lower insulin levels or lipid levels in the blood.
The best part about acupuncture is that there are no harmful side effects and no chance for an addiction to occur. The patient will have to come back for regular treatment and have to pay attention to one’s diet and exercise regularly as needles can only do so much to control one’s weight.
The number of treatments for someone who is overweight varies depending on how many pounds they want to lose, the speed at which they want to lose it and their commitment to sticking to the plan.
The average patient on the other hand who wants to lose 5 to 10 pounds will have to come for treatment every three days or twice a week then once this is attained, once every two weeks. It is up to the person until when the treatment will be done which shows that acupuncture can help you lose weight.

Probably the most widely advertised bust augmentation products are breast enhancement supplements, mainly made from various herbs that have served traditional medicine throughout the centuries. Among the best known we could mention wild yam, fennel, fenugreek, dong quai, pueraria mirifica, hops, dandelion root and some others. Used in a variety of dosages and combinations such plants contain natural estrogen also known as phytoestrogen, which is the main element responsible for breast enhancement. Even the cream breast enhancement supplements use these herb extracts for external application and stimulation of the mammary gland.
Some of these plants that ensure the success of breast enhancement supplements come from the Far East, being used in Asian countries since ancient times to treat various health problems related to the reproductive system. Dong quai for instance, a Chinese plant, as the name speaks for itself, was used to alleviate symptoms related to the menopause, such as hot flashes or cramps. It is also useful in treating PMS symptoms. Nevertheless it has only recently been included in breast enhancement supplements and it is worth mentioning for its stimulation role at the level of the mammary gland. One side effect associated with its administration is increased skin sensitivity to sun rays.
Another plant of Asian origin used in breast enhancement supplements is pueraria mirifica, the basic ingredient for creams and complete bust enlargement products. Growing in Thailand and Burma, this herb contains estrogen-like substances that have a stimulating action on the breasts. However, there are a few restrictions in the usage of all the breast enhancement supplements that include it. Such products are forbidden to pregnant and nursing women, or to those that use some kind of hormonal birth control pills. Studies have also pointed out that in the case of pre-menopausal women it may cause anemia. Therefore, before turning to any breast enhancement supplement ask a specialist for guidance.
Last but not least, we should briefly tackle with the bovine ovary extract too, that is largely advertised on the Internet as part of breast enhancement supplements. It is said that it stimulates not the breasts directly, but the pituitary gland that is responsible for the secretion of the prolactine and growth hormone. The former rises to large quantities during pregnancy in order to determine milk secretion, but additional administration could increase the risk of infertility and even stroke. On the other hand, the growth hormone can cause organ-related problems. Therefore, stick to the safest of dosage in any of the breast enhancement supplements you may be using.

Posted by HCA on Monday, 25 October 2010 - 12:22 pm - Filled under Sex Life
There are some significant changes that take place in a woman’s life. One of them is menopause. This marks the end of her ability to conceive a child. There will be no more menstrual cycles once the woman is in complete menopause. Yet it can take years to go from the start of menopause to completely finishing it. Most women start the process around 45 and finish around 60. It can be sooner or later though as each woman is different.
There is a common misconception that women who have gone through menopause no longer have any sexual desire. They may continue to engage in the activity to keep their partner happy, but they don’t get any pleasure out of it. This is certainly not the truth though.
Many women over the age of 60 are involved in very fulfilling sexual relationships. They love not having to worry about their period. They also don’t have to worry about an unwanted pregnancy very late in life. This new found freedom for them means they are able to fully focus on the act of sexual activity and not the various repercussions of it.
Some women do experience a drop in their sexual desire though after menopause. Many women experience problems with the vagina being dry after menopause. This can make it hard for them to get pleasure out of sexual activity. There are some great products on the market though that will allow you to moisturize the vagina without any negative side effects.
It is a good idea for a woman with such issues to see a gynecologist for a complete evaluation though. They may be able to help come up with a natural remedy that can prevent ongoing issues having to be addressed with it. For many women, dealing with vaginal dryness can cause a mental block with sexual intercourse.
They may connect it with being undesirable now that they are in their 60’s. This low self confidence can cause women to shy away from sexual intercourse as well. Being able to really enjoy your body and your sexual desires when you are over 60 is very important. It will encourage you to do what you can to be able to bring back a high level of sexual desire to your life.
Sometimes something over the counter though isn’t enough for a woman to get back the sexual desire she once had. Your doctor may offer you supplements of hormones in the form of estrogen. Since the level of it in the body drops dramatically due to menopause, replacing it definitely can be helpful.
Menopause doesn’t have to hinder your sex life though for women over 60 years of age. If you enjoy sex and you want to continue doing so, there are remedies out there that can help. Don’t be embarrassed to discuss the issue with your doctor either. They deal with such issues all the time. They will know how to help you get back to where you want to be sexually.
For many older couples, menopause can throw a wrench into what was once a very enjoyable part of their intimate relationship. It is important to discuss what has taken place. A woman doesn’t want her partner to assume the lack of sexual responsiveness has anything to do with them not being attractive anymore. Find a good solution that works for you so that menopause won’t stop you from engaging your sexual relationship.

Posted by HCA on Friday, 22 October 2010 - 2:16 pm - Filled under Stress & Anxiety
At certain points in your life, you might have been plagued with worry. It might have been in the wake of beginning a marriage, starting a new career, or caring for a sick child. The worry might have affected you not only emotionally but physically as well. You might have experienced feelings of uneasiness, faintness, or breathing troubles.
There are degrees of severity when it comes to anxiety. For instance, it can be mild, lasting only a day or two, or severe, lasting an entire month. You might experience generalized anxiety disorder or something more specific such as phobias, panic, or post-traumatic stress disorder.
Anxiety might be treated with an anti-depressant or an anti-anxiety medication. Generally speaking, there are three categories of anti-depressants: selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs; tricyclics; and monoamine oxidase inhibitors or MAOIs. SSRIs include Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft. These anti-depressants often have fewer side-effects than the older generation of anti-depressants. Initially, you might feel nervous taking SSRIs, but the feeling often disappears after a few weeks. One of the most important side-effects of these drugs is sexual dysfunction, which can often be corrected by changing the dosage.
Tricyclics tend to have side effects such as sleepiness, dizziness, and weight gain. They are older than the SSRIs, so there has been more research conducted on them. Meanwhile, MAOIs can cause a reaction if mixed with certain foods and drinks, such as cheese and wine. These reactions can include increased blood pressure and other life-threatening problems.
Side-effects of anti-anxiety medications include fatigue, confusion, or drowsiness. The medications may be taken two or three times a day or just when needed. Dosage starts low then increases until symptoms disappear. The amount of medication prescribed varies according to symptoms and a person’s body chemistry. Doctors generally believe that you should not drink alcohol while taking anti-anxiety medication because the combination can create a life-threatening situation.
Because the medication can lead to dependence, the drugs are usually prescribed for only days or weeks at a time. In fact, a user might be directed to take the medication only when symptoms of anxiety occur. In some cases, individuals suffering from anxiety may need treatment for an extended period of time. If you begin taking anti-anxiety medication, it is important that you stay on it until the doctor recommends that you stop taking it. If you stop abruptly, you may experience anxiety, dizziness, or loss of appetite. Common forms of anxiety medication include Valium, Ativan, and Xanax.
At times, physicians may prescribe beta-blockers to combat anxiety. While beta-blockers such as propanolol may be used to deal with heart damage, they have also emerged as an effective treatment for social anxiety. If you face a stressful situation, such as a job interview, your physician may give you a beta-blocker that can keep your palms from sweating, your head from swelling, and treat other symptoms of anxiety.
There are certain steps you should take before you begin a drug regimen for anxiety. For instance, you should do your homework on the drug. Find out what side-effects it causes, and determine whether you can live with those side-effects. Also, you’ll need to inform your doctor of any over-the-counter medications you are using. Be sure to find out how long you will have to take the drug. You should realize that if you decide to stop taking the drug, you could find symptoms of anxiety reappearing.
If you’ve been diagnosed with anxiety, it can be a daunting experience. You may not know where to go or who to turn to. However, it’s best if you begin your search for treatment with your family physician, who can refer you to a psychiatrist if need be. While any type of anxiety medication can lead to side-effects, many people report good experiences, particularly with SSRIs. By working closely with your physician, you can find the medication that’s appropriate for you. However, you should know that medication may be only one part of the treatment puzzle. You may also need to engage in talk therapy or join a support group in order to alleviate your symptoms. The good news is that the prognosis is good for those who’ve been diagnosed with anxiety.

Posted by HCA on Wednesday, 20 October 2010 - 4:34 pm - Filled under Wrinkles
Wrinkle cure and anti aging skin care are two so closely connected issues that most specialized publications and women’s magazines tackle with them together. Since women are more prone to suffer from skin decay due to age, they make the primary target of cosmetic manufacturers from all over the world. The lotions and moisturizers, the creams and the facial masks are part of the daily routine of any woman who wants to be rid of wrinkles and keep them away as much as possible. Besides regular remedies there are more advanced ones, for instance, a most appreciated wrinkle cure is considered to be botox shots.
In the wrinkle cure and anti aging skin care combination, botox shots occupy a very special place. They are said to reduce the very fine lines that appear in the eye area and on other parts of the face and neck, and are particularly used by people in their 40s or 50s. Botox as such is a protein substance extracted from the botulinum toxin that when injected in the skin causes muscle relaxation and reduces wrinkles of expression for a period of at least five or six months. If you want to try this procedure, careful medical examination is required to see if there are any risks related to such a cosmetic intervention.
Another alternative wrinkle cure that goes hand in hand with anti aging skin care is acupuncture, and this kind of treatment is carried out as part of special face lift clinics where the benefits of acupuncture are combined with the action of herbal extracts. The treatment is targeted at specific skin areas affected by age, with the great advantage that there are no side effects or trauma like in the case of traditional surgical interventions. Recovery is quick and efficient and you will definitely see results after at least two weeks of treatment.
You can get both sides of a cosmetic treatment that includes wrinkle cure and anti aging skin care if you try some of the programs provided by great local spa centers, offering beauty services. When you want to take advantage of a full and professional body treatment that would eliminate the age damage at the deep skin and tissue level, it is good to have a look at the large offer of facilities that are advertised on the Internet, and then find out what the costs of some rejuvenation sessions would be.

Cellulite is the process in which a person experiences a build up of fatty issue underneath the top layer of skin. It is often associated with women. There are certain areas of the body that are more prone to developing cellulite than others are. These areas often include the thighs, legs, and buttocks. Cellulite often results in the skin developing masses of bumpy skin and stretching of the skin.
For people who have cellulite, it may be a daunting task to try to reduce it. There are many products on the market that promise to reduce the visibility of cellulite, but they often do not perform as promised. There are pills and creams that are available that promise to resolve the effects of cellulite. Each year, people spend literally millions of dollars to purchase products that promise to reduce the effects of cellulite. Many people actually consider having liposuction to reduce the visible effects of cellulite.
If you have cellulite and are considering liposuction in order to resolve the cellulite, it is important for you to understand that it does not always correct the problem. There have been reported cases in which the cellulite actually developed more severely after receiving liposuction. You should carefully discuss all the available options that you have with your doctor before deciding to pursue liposuction. Your doctor will probably inform you of other options that you have in dealing with the cellulite issue that you have.
There is a procedure that is gaining in popularity when it comes to reducing the visible signs of liposuction. This procedure is referred to as Endermologie. This procedure is more cosmetically correct, however, there is the downfall of the fact that the results may not be permanent. It seems to do a better job at making the skin smoother and the cellulite less noticeable.
When you are considering methods for treating cellulite, it is important that you carefully consider each of your options. You should research all of the available options open to you and carefully weigh the positive and negative of each option. You should consider the overall risks that are associated with each method of treatment for your cellulite. You should also consider what kind of price is involved for those types of procedures and if your health insurance will cover such a procedure. Liposuction should be used as a last resort in most situations.
In order to prevent more cellulite from forming and to tone the cellulite that has already formed, you should be sure to get plenty of regular exercise. This is very important in toning and developing the muscles, which will, in turn tone up that fatty tissue that causes cellulite. You should also ensure that you drink plenty of water. This has been found to reduce the effects of cellulite because it purifies the body.

Posted by HCA on Tuesday, 12 October 2010 - 4:45 pm - Filled under Gain Weight
There seems to be some effects that happen in the body before and after weight gain. It may have something to do with the way that blood flows through the body. But that is putting it simply. There was a recent study about how substantial weight gain in people may affect certain functions that concern the efficient blood flow in the body.
In a research report provided by the world renowned Mayo Clinic in the US, researchers have discovered that substantial weight gain may cause some impairment on endothelial function. The aim of the study was to learn about the effects of weight gain and subsequent weight loss to the endothelial function. Endothelial cells in the body can be found lining up the blood vessels. When they are not functioning properly, these cells can obstruct blood flow. This may eventually lead to a person suffering from a heart attack or stroke.
According to the study, a weight gain of nine to ten pounds in lean healthy young adults may be enough to impair endothelial function. This is considered to be an important finding since endothelial dysfunction is a known predictor of heart attacks and stroke. Its association with weight gain was not previously known.
The Mayo Clinic study was the first controlled, randomized and blinded trial that was undertaken to evaluate the effects of weight gain and the subsequent weight loss on endothelial function. The study consisted of getting a group of 43 lean and healthy volunteers with an average body mass index of between 18.5 and 24.9. The body mass index is a statistical measurement of a person’s weight in relation to height. The average age of the volunteers was 29, with 42 percent of them being women. All the volunteers in the group were not taking any type of medication during the study and were non-smokers.
The volunteer group went through a weight maintenance period supervised by an experienced dietician. During this period, the volunteers were randomly selected to either gain weight or maintain weight. 35 of the volunteers went into the weight gaining groups while the rest made up the weight maintaining group.
During the course of the study, the 35 volunteers gained weight for up to nine pounds or four kilograms. Their endothelial functions were then measured by means of ultrasound on the large vessel in the upper arm called the brachial artery. The measurements were done at the same time early in the morning and under various flow conditions.
For the weight gainers, measurements of the endothelial function was done at the start of the study, eight weeks after gaining weight and then 16 weeks after weight loss. The other group was measured at the start of the study and then eight weeks later for follow-up.
During the said study, the weight gainers put on an average of four kilos of weight which also increased their visceral and subcutaneous fat in the body. The flow measurements at the brachial artery from the weight gainers showed gradual decrease with the addition of weight.
But when the subjects went through the period of losing the weight they have gained during the study, the flow levels improved and eventually returned to the levels measured at the start of the study. This goes to show that endothelial function in the body may be affected before and after weight gain.

Posted by HCA on Friday, 8 October 2010 - 11:49 am - Filled under Acne
As it is already known, acne is more frequent during puberty. However, according to some studies, about 25 percent of the men and nearly 50 percent of the women get this chronic skin disease. In women it is more frequent because the hormone levels become abnormal in the period of the menstrual cycle. In their case, the lesions may become visible at any time: before, after and in some cases right at the same time with menstruation. In most of the cases, adult acne is visible on the face. Body and back acne are less frequent in adults. As most of the dermatologists say, people may experience acne in adulthood even though they have never had this skin disease in childhood.
The scientists have tried for a long time to discover the best adult acne treatment. After a long research, they were at least able to establish which the most effective methods are. The first one is named photodynamic therapy. This adult acne treatment is meant to alter the sebaceous glands, which are found right in the proximity of the hair follicle. People who want to choose this treatment must know that it is quite expensive, as it can go beyond $650. In order to increase the efficiency to 80 percent and to maintain the effects for at least 6 months, the treatment must be performed 2 or 3 times.
The next adult acne treatment is represented by laser therapy. Photodynamic therapy tends to become more popular than laser therapy because the latter needs to be performed twice or 3 times per week for prolonged periods of time. Though, laser therapy is an improper name for this treatment, because light is used for increasing the temperatures in the areas that are affected by acne. However, the efficiency of this therapy is increasing, as new types of lasers are developed.
Devices that can be used at home have also been developed. These devices may also represent a viable adult acne treatment. The principle on which they work is very simple. The head of the device produces a certain amount of heat. This amount is controlled with precision in order to prevent any possible discomfort. The heat is applied on the area where acne is observed for 2.5 minutes. This procedure must be repeated 2 or 3 times per day so the optimal results are obtained in the shortest period of time. The device is priced around $225, while the tips are $35. The tips can be used 90 times which means that one tip is enough for a month-long treatment.

Posted by HCA on Wednesday, 6 October 2010 - 2:37 pm - Filled under Nutrition
Nutrition as it applies to our daily lives means that we take in what we need to maintain our body’s healthy state. Nutrition has become an important word thanks to the involvement of the USDA in our daily food requirements, and the FDA’s involvement in determining what is and is not dangerous for us to consume.
What about eating habits? What about vitamins? What role does our daily intake play in our health? More than you have been lead to believe or understand. The body’s ability to remain well under anything other than ideal conditions is a direct result of the nutrition received on a daily basis. The mind’s ability to remain well is, again, a direct result of our nutritional intake. For instance, the human brain doesn’t develop well without the necessary input of protein in our daily diet. No protein, no intelligence.
Nutrition refers to the nurturing of our body, in our ability to keep it healthy and functioning as it is supposed to do. Our ability to provide the body with all the necessary food, vitamins, and minerals so that we continue to thrive in our daily life processes.
How do we determine that we are providing the essential nutritional needs? That knowledge comes by educating ourselves about what our individual needs are, the needs of our family, and then taking that knowledge and applying it to the foods we buy, that we prepare, and that our families consume.
Health is taught as a science course, and addresses matters of personal hygiene, diseases, and the broad spectrum of health as it applies to the masses. No individual attention is given to how to attain optimal health via our eating habits. It’s funny that we skip the most important, fundamental building block to good health: our nutritional and caloric consumption in our food. I personally believe we should have the field of nutrition and physical activity married into something combined to provide every person that enters the school system with a personal knowledge of their bodies’ needs, caloric, and nutritional, so that they complete their education with mental and physical competencies, as well as analytical and mathematical competence.
Nutrition is a concept that should be as important to our educational process as our ability to count. The ability to recognize our nutritional requirements, find the foods we need to fulfill those requirements, and differentiate between healthy food consumption and “unhealthy” eating habits is not an option. Not for a healthy, happy, long, and quality life.
What we should absorb as we travel along life’s daily path is a way to incorporate good nutrition into our lifestyle. There is generally just as much room for good as there is bad, it just so happens that bad nutritional habits hold more appeal.
Bad nutrition receives more advertising dollars than healthy nutritional options, and is often more visible. But that doesn’t mean it’s any easier, more convenient, or cheaper. Habits, generally take about two weeks to make the switch from conscious action to unconscious thought. Two weeks is not long, it’s not long at all for decisions that will affect you for the rest of your life. It’s also not long for the potential reward that comes from setting an example your children can follow, and you can be proud for them to follow. You teach them daily about the good habits you want them to develop, and then you demonstrate a bad one in your nutrition choices. C’mon, mom and dad, let’s practice what we preach.
